Before establishing Ribble Steam Railway on Preston's Docklands, the original preservation organisation established was based in the former Steam Shed at Southport, commonly known as "Steamport Southport".On Spring Bank Holiday 1974, following extensive efforts to restore basic facilties and ameneties in the former L&Y Shed, the organisation opened it's doors to the public.
To mark this half century, and to recognise the fantastic efforts of those pioneers in establishing a museum, charity & the basis of our collection today, not to mention the fantastic efforts of those involved in the relocation to Preston, we're collating as many materials as possible for display - and of course an opportunity for those involved from Steamport, and the earlier period at Preston, to come together and celebrate the development of the organisation.
We hope to see you there - and of course if you have any photos or videos from Steamport, or the move to Preston, and are willing to allow us to use them, please get in touch!
