To celebrate the publication of '50 at 50' I'm having a book launch at one of my favourite pubs. For those who missed me banging on about it before '50 at 50' is a collection of essays I've written about records. Originally the essays were intended to be nothing more than a constructive way of passing the time on my morning commute. Then my dear friend Sukey Booth collected them up and turned them into a brilliantly designed full-colour 232 page book with some wonderful photography, so here we are!
We've upped the print run considerably in the response to the overwhelming demand (honestly!) and although pre-orders have now closed we will have a few available to sell in person on the night, just in case anyone is desperate to buy their loved one a Christmas present with a smidgen more meaning than a bunch of petrol station flowers.
If you've already bought one and want to collect it from me on the evening then I'm more than happy to bring yours along and hand it over on the night. The old joke about unsigned copies being worth more will be repeated several times I suspect.
Obviously there has to be music, so I'll be bringing the records that I wrote about. Selections will be from the '50 at 50' plus the as-yet-unseen '51-100' list that appears in the book. There will not be a reading from the book. Well, not unless I have too much to drink. And if there is to be a reading then it'll be the Kylie story.
I hope you can join me and Sukey at the Eastern even if you aren't interested in the book; we can call it a pre-Christmas get-together in what is without doubt Brighton's most Christmassy pub.
