About this Event
Hill Cottage In-Person Retreat 2025
To register email [email protected]'ve been delivering retreats at Hill Cottage since 2018. It's a warm and friendly centre. You can wander in the gardens, walk up along Offa's Dyke or take a refreshing dip in the natural swimming pool. There are just 12 places on this retreat which allows everyone to have their own room. The size of the retreat offers a sense of intimacy and holding and a chance to get to know people. If you come alone you'll be sure of a warm welcome.
What to expect
We will explore insight and compassion-based practices through meditation, enquiry and Qigong. There will be opportunities to meet in small enquiry groups. Outside of these times, the retreat will remain largely in silence. This spacious week-long format includes opportunities to connect with the natural environment, walk and relax in the beautiful Welsh countryside and swim in the retreat centre's natural swimming pool. There will be time to rest held by the supportive field of collective practice.
Who is the retreat for?
This retreat is appropriate for people who have had some experience of mindfulness or meditation practice and also for more experienced practitioners. Please get in touch if you are unsure whether this retreat is right for you.
This 5-day teacher-led retreat meets the annual retreat CPD requirement (please see feedback for this retreat below)
The Venue
Hill Cottage Retreat Centre is situated in the Marches of mid-Wales, near Knighton, just into Wales, in Powys. The retreat centre offers space for reflection, creativity and interaction with others and the environment in mutually beneficial ways. The centre welcomes people from a wide range of philosophical and professional perspectives for workshops, courses and retreats. Set in ten acres of land, the centre includes a young orchard and woodland, a natural swimming pond, gardens for contemplation, and wildflower pastures bordered by a meandering brook. The Centre, which is run on principles of sustainability and mutuality, welcomes individuals and groups from a broad spectrum of philosophies and professional disciplines, i
Accommodation is provided within a number of carefully designed barns. There is a range of single and shared accommodations ( for 2 people) spread across the barns. There is also a small number of sleeping spaces available in traditional style 'crog lofts'. The crog lofts are comfortable and spacious rooms built into the roof of the barns. They are accessed by ladder stairs and are therefore not best suited for people with limited mobility. Bedding, bed linen and towels are provided. The toilet and shower are shared and there are in addition kitchens and sitting room areas. Vegetarian and vegan meals are prepared on-site using fresh local ingredients. There are three additional shared toilets in the Hall Barn.
Food
The food is delicious and made with love. There's a simple breakfast of porridge, seeds and fruits, a vegetarian main meal at lunchtime and a light supper. Teas, coffee and soft drinks will be available during the day and light refreshments in the evening.

Feedback 2024
Wow! Seeds of joy was a wonderful five-day silent retreat. Hill Cottage is such a special place. I'm going home filled to the brim with peace and love, knowing that the route to joy is a calm and peaceful mind. Now to keep planting those seeds.
Feedback 2023
What a first face-to-face retreat to be part of! Amazing. I loved it, especially the mindful movement, meditation practices, insights, shared experiences and beautiful environment.
Expertly guided meditations and facilitated enquiry
The retreat helped to ‘recharge my batteries’, to be kind and supportive towards myself and in my relationships with others. Post retreat I feel more able to accept the changes that come along in life and feel hopeful of enjoying joyful experiences - whether I am on my own or in the company of others.
Thank you Colette, I cannot recommend your retreats highly enough.
Feedback 2022
I would highly recommend a retreat lead by Colette. I have joined two week long retreats with you so far. They are always in lovely surroundings, with an inclusive mix of other people and always lead so compassionately by Colette.
Colette is a kind, caring down to earth and extremely knowledgeable teacher, who made me feel welcome from the off. Her ability to hold a safe space and flow with the changing energy and needs of the group was amazing to witness and was very supportive in creating an environment where I felt free to be myself and experiment with what it means to rest in presence. Hill Cottage retreat is a beautiful place and the love and care that Zarine and Jeremy extend can be seen, felt and tasted through the beautiful spaces, wonderful landscaping and food they share.
You set the ‘mindfulness and compassion’ scene wonderfully for the group and I really felt I was in the ‘right place at the right time’. It was lovely to be able to pause and share some time and experiences with a group of people who are also interested in deepening their own mindfulness practice - both on the ‘meditation cushion’ and in ‘everyday life’.
This was challenging at times but with the supportive presence of yourself and other group members I felt able to be courageous enough to dig deep and explore some difficult emotions which are present within me at times. I also appreciated the lighter moments which made me smile - you seemed to sense when the time was right to encourage us to take our ‘foot off the pedal’ and lighten the mood a little.
We travelled a long way - it was well worth it. I would definitely attend again.
