This is a FREE event for teens and adults, but your Eventbrite RSVP is so helpful to our planning.

Want to read at our 5/24 Open Mic Night? Night of the event, fill out a sign-up card at the event and drop it into the basket for your chance to read!

What are Booksweet Open Mic Nights like? Open Mic Nights at Booksweet are all about two important ideas, with emphasis on the first:

1.) Community. These events are a chance to build your creative community, make new connections, celebrate existing relationships, and support one another.

2.) The chance to share your work. We ask that all who attend be present for the full 60 minutes, knowing that your name may not get pulled from the hat if we have a full event.

We welcome a wide range of sharing at Booksweet's Open Mic Night events: fiction, non-fiction, poetry, works-in-process, published works, and songs. The reason: we're here to connect and inspire one another. We believe that inspiration and community are nurtured by variety and diversity. Content warnings are appreciated, with a pause to allow people to leave the room if needed.

Note: The work you read does not have to be original; sharing the writing of others (with attribution) can be a really helpful practice as you work towards sharing original work

Please keep the following logistics in in mind:

  • We'll get started at 7 pm, so if you are reading, please arrive a few minutes prior.
  • Rebecca, our featured poet for the evening will open the evening with a 10 minute reading. After that, open mic participants will be allotted 5 minutes to read.
  • We don't use a mic in our space (too intimate a setting; we seat 25 indoors), so you'll need to project your voice.
  • Learn more about health and safety at Booksweet.
  • Booksweet is wheelchair accessible.
  • We offer ample free parking and bike racks.
  • We're off the AATA bus route 23 and 22. Stop name: Courtyard Shops.
  • We're right across the street from North Campus, with many delicious things to eat near us beore or after the event.

We're so excited to hear your voices and your work.
