It's that time of year again DRD fans. This year will be our 4th Annual Skate-a-thon and we're wanting to give back to our skaters.
We all know life happens. Everyone experiences the occasional hard time, emotionally or financially; be it due to unforeseen changes in family circumstances, job loss, injury or illness -- any one of us may someday find ourselves struggling to make ends meet, let alone pay for dues, buy new wheels, find money for a surgery co-payment due to a derby injury, or when you just fall on hard times and don’t know where else to go. Whatever the reason, the result is that you may find yourself being left without sufficient funds to pay for basic living costs and derby. That's where our Skater Hardship Fund comes in to play!
The Skater Hardship Fund was officially established in 2010 to financially assist skaters who are experiencing a temporary hardship due to a major life event. Things like monthly dues to gear repair/replacement all the way down the line to potential cost of injury assistance can be considered eligible for funding. We all run into hard times occasionally and in those moments, the last thing we want to give up is the one thing that may make us happy or the one thing we look forward to. This year, we will revive our Skater Hardship Fund and make it available to all league members that encounter trying times or unexpected hardship. Any funds that are raised over the $5k goal will be put towards various projects around the Rollerdome. When the times get tough, we keep on rolling thanks to donations from our friends, family and fans both near and far.
