Anita Walker, PhD
Professor Emeritus of Mathematics from East Central University, Past Governor of South Central Region of Soroptimist International

Dr Anita Walker was born and raised in Dallas TX. Over the years from childhood to adulthood, her educational and athletic experiences and her faith have helped chart the pathway her life has followed. She enjoyed a 32-year university teaching career. Her long-term passions continue to be participation in and volunteerism within the worlds of competitive swimming and Soroptimist International, both of which continue to be her major activities in retirement. She was introduced to and participated in volunteer and leadership opportunities even at a very young age.

Anita holds the appointment of Professor Emeritus of Mathematics from East Central University in Ada OK. She and her husband of 42 years have one son and three young grandsons.

In her talk, "How I Became Who I Am," Anita will teach attendees:

That the "climb" to become a leader doesn't have to be the goal and the driving force behind what one does in life. Rather it can be the unexpected or unplanned result of what one has chosen to do over time, and that kind of leadership adds to the richness of the human experience.
