Creole Culture Day returns for its 4th year as a celebration of Louisiana’s vibrant Creole heritage, with a special focus on the French and Creole languages that remain central to our identity. Hosted in the heart of Grand Coteau, this free, family-friendly event invites the entire community to take part in a full day of food, music, art, and cultural preservation.
Event Highlights
• Live Boucherie (Begins at 6 AM): Start your day with a traditional communal hog butchering and cooking event, featuring live demonstrations—many conducted in French—on preparing cracklin, boudin, and other Creole staples. All food from the boucherie will be served free to attendees. Main activities begin at 10 AM.
• Creole French Activities: Enjoy interactive, language-centered activities like Creole French Bingo, designed to entertain and promote the everyday use and preservation of Creole and Louisiana French.
• Genealogy Station: Work with genealogists on-site to trace your Creole ancestry and connect with your heritage through historical records, stories, and family ties.
• Creole Cuisine & Local Vendors: Savor regional dishes and desserts from a curated group of food trucks and vendors representing central Louisiana’s deep culinary traditions.
• Live Music & Performances: This year’s music lineup will once again celebrate the sounds of Creole Louisiana. A special Zydeco guest will be announced soon—stay tuned.
Why It Matters
Creole Culture Day is more than a festival. It’s a space for education, storytelling, and tradition—especially the preservation of Creole identity through language, foodways, music, and family history. By gathering in Grand Coteau, we honor a region with deep Creole roots and reaffirm our commitment to keeping these traditions alive.
Mark your calendar and bring your friends and family. This is a celebration for everyone.
