Impression: We will be portraying Company F, 48th NY. This was a garrisoned unit in Fall 1862. Trousers should be hemmed, brass polished, leathers/brogans blackened, and your uniform clean and in good repair. Bring cleaning supplies (rags, oil, etc) as cleaning is an excellent activity to help make barracks life come alive. Please bring your greatcoat, knapsack and gum blanket and/or poncho. This will help us maintain uniformity for inspections.
There Saturday evening ‘soiree’ will be hosted by the “Ladies of the Regiment.” You should plan on being present in a clean dress uniform (frock coat preferred) with sash (officers and NCOs), cap and gloves, and all should be cognizant of 19th Century military customs and protocols, especially in the midst of ladies.
Our expectation is that you will familiarize yourself with NPS rules and regulations. Please ensure that you conduct yourself in an appropriate manner & Do not bring your own powder and caps to the park. The NPS will provide rounds for firing demonstrations.
The NPS prohibits alcohol at the site. A special exception is made for our Saturday night soiree. However, any alcohol that is brought inside the fort should be in a period container and only for the evening. If you bring carry it in, then you need to carry it out.
