45th Charity Golf Invitational to benefit the Russell Home for Atypical Children

The Russell Home for Atypical Children was the first non-profit institution in the country for developmentally delayed children. Today you would find quietly hanging in the home a dusty occupational license dated Nov. 13, 1951, when Mrs. Russell opened her home to the first child to "see if it would work out." Since then, the home has opened its doors to hundreds of youngsters, sometimes after hearing pleas from desperate parents, and in more than one instance, finding them just left on the doorstep.
By choice The Russell Home operates without the benefit of federal, state, or local funding, the purpose being to eliminate possible restrictions that would defeat the founding principal of the home, that acceptance be based solely on the need for services offered. Because it is a unique facility, the only one of its kind in Central Florida, there is always a shortage of space. Referrals come from churches, doctors, police departments, and the courts for permanent, part-time or interim care.
The Russell Home, over the years, has captured the interest and support of the surrounding community. Without the community assistance many of the material needs of the children could not be met and the Golf Tournament is but one way we can raise much needed funds. All funds are used directly for the care and benefit of the children which is currently caring for over 40 atypical children. The Russell Home relies on donations from the public for all expenses. We encourage the public to register to participate on Saturday, October 12, 2024 for the 45th Charity Golf Invitational at Hawk’s Landing Golf Club at Orlando World Center Marriott. An Event package with sponsorship opportunities is also available. Donations and auction participation are most welcome from non-golfers.
