About this Event

400 Years

Drifting

Shaking

Stomping

Praising

400 years of voices being lifted, humming and chanting, recognizing cadence. For 400 years our spirits have kept the score. Today, we remember the steps and stories of those ancestors that shifted our bodies in the wind, while moving towards a future beyond their imagination.

A 13 movement Suite featuring a 14 piece ensemble, "400 Years" explores sociomusicology, ethnomusicology, and epigenetics, and beautifully marries music, choreography and visual media. The Black Diaspora, and the effects of the Trans-Atlantic Slave Trade are used to illustrate the continued transformation of culture, conjuring the space for re-memberance and future becoming through applied ancestral wisdom, paired with continued innovation
