Lent is fast approaching, and, following the tradition of St. Philip Neri, the Washington Oratory will be celebrating its annual 40 Hours Devotion to the Blessed Sacrament on the three days before Ash Wednesday. The 40 Hours Devotion is forty hours of continuous Eucharist Adoration to prepare for the holy season of Lent, 40 hours to prepare for the 40 days. St. Philip Neri brought the 40 Hours to Rome and the devotion has been celebrated throughout the world ever since.
Eucharistic Exposition begins after the 7:30 PM Mass on Sunday, March 2 and continues until the Solemn Benediction at 7:00 PM on Tuesday, March 4.
For continuous exposition to occur we need at least two people adoring at all times. We encourage people to sign up to adore, for 30 minutes, an hour, or even longer.
