4-WEEKS POTTERY THROWDOWN COURSE IN DUBLIN

ABOUT THIS COURSE

We are really happy to introduce our 4 weeks pottery wheel course in Dublin and hope you will enjoy it!

If you would like an immersive pottery throwdown experience where you learn to make your own pottery during a 4 week course, then this may be just what you are looking for!

On this 4 weeks throwdown course, in a small class guided by our expert potter, you will work on your individual pottery wheel to shape clay, learning throwing, centering, and pulling techniques and making pottery pieces which we will glaze for you.

We really hope you enjoy your time on the wheel as much as we enjoy teaching it!

Course Features:

- Demonstrations by one of our excellent teachers of how to throw clay on a wheel, and tutoring you on your own wheel as you learn.

- Practice on your own wheel with unlimited clay and your own wareboard. We will provide you with a wareboard, poly sheet, and a name label for your wareboard at the beginning of each course. This is to identify and wrap your work and keep it from drying out too quickly. Please take good care of your board, and respect your poly sheet, as you will need it for the duration of the course.

- At the end of your course we will ask you to select your favourite 2 pieces that you made throughout the 4 weeks, and we will fire and glaze 2 pieces for you, and contact you when they are ready for collection - usually between 8-10 weeks after the class.

LEARNING OUTCOMES

You will develop skills to throw small pots on a pottery wheel, including:

- handling your clay

- your pottery tools

- centering and pulling a pot on your wheel

- shaping techniques

- taking your pot off your wheel

- taking care of your wheel station

If you would like to glaze your own pots you might like to book into one of our 2-hour Glazing Workshops and learn the basics of glazing techniques. In that case we will keep two pots from your workshop for you to glaze. Please book your Glazing Workshop at the time of booking.

Where and What Time: This workshop runs for in our light-filled Arran Street East studio in the heart of the Dublin Fruit and Vegetable Markets area. Eircode: D07 K744 google map.

FAQs

When will my pot be ready for collection? Please allow 8-10 weeks for your pot to be ready for collection. We will email you when they are ready. Please sign your pot as instructed by the teacher. Please note - sometimes, not often, pieces don’t survive firing in the kiln and they get damaged - this is beyond any potter’s control. Should this happen to your pot we will supply you with a blank pot which you may glaze at the workshop.

What should I wear/bring? Your clothes and shoes will get wet and dirty from clay splashes so please wear comfortable clothes that you do not mind getting messy. Please bring your own apron and a hand towel.

You may take as many of your pots home with you as you like so please bring small boxes (like Tupperware or cardboard) to bring your creations home with you.

Who is this course for? This pottery workshop will suit beginners looking for an introduction to working with clay, or those who have worked with clay before and would like a simple refresher or time on the wheel.

Is there an age limit for the Workshop? This course is generally for people aged 18 and above. A teenager over 15 may attend if they are accompanied by an adult. Please let us know in advance.

What's the course like? You will be welcomed by your teacher and brought to one of our light-filled classrooms (please let us know if you have mobility issues so we can accommodate you in the downstairs classroom, as some classrooms are accessible by stairs only). Each participant will have access to their own pottery wheel/workstation and tools for the duration of the workshop. We supply all the materials you need, but please bring your own apron and towel so as not together your clothes wet with clay. The workshop ends with a class and equipment tidy up - another important part of the potter's training!

What are my transport/parking options getting to the workshop? The nearest Luas Red Line stop is 'Four Courts', (a five minute walk away) and many bus routes service Stop 1479 on Ormond Quay, at the junction with Capel Street. You'll also find a Dublin Bikes stand at each of these locations. Due to our City Centre location, on-street parking immediately outside the building is limited, but there is pay and display in the general area, and there are large car parks nearby at Jervis Shopping Centre and beside the Fruit and Vegetable Markets.

Is my booking transferrable and what is the cancellation policy? Please check our cancellation policy.

Are there any Health and Safety issues? Please note you will be working on a pottery wheel in a bent position which might put some strain on your neck or back or wrists. Please first consult your doctor if you have had back, neck, wrist or any other injuries.

Please keep your hair tied up and your nails short.

Where can I contact you with any questions? You can email us at [email protected].

Thank you!
