U6 Open (born on or after January 1, 2020. Not a Qualifier)
U8 Open / U8 Girls (born after January 1, 2018)
U10 Open / U10 Girls (born after January 1, 2016)
U12 Open / U12 Girls (born after January 1, 2014)
U14 Open / U14 Girls (born after January 1, 2012)
U16 Open / U16 Girls (born after January 1, 2010)
U18 Open / U18 Girls (born after January 1, 2008)
Sections may be combined, if required.
RATING
CFC Quick Rated.
FORMAT
Regular Swiss or Round Robin, depending on section size.
TIME CONTROL
G/20 min + 5 sec increment
ROUND TIMES
Arrival: 10:45am. No check-in on site.
– Round 1: 11:00 am
– Round 2: 12:00 pm
Lunch Break
– Round 3: 2:00 pm
– Round 4: 3:00 pm
– Round 5: 4:00 pm
Closing Ceremony: As soon as Round 5 ends
DEFAULT TIMES
No default time for showing up late in a game but your clock shall be started.
CFC ID & CFC MEMBERSHIP
– Players must obtain a free CFC ID by no later than January 17, 2026
– A paid CFC Membership is NOT required.
First-timers are welcome to reach out to us for instructions on how to generate a CFC ID,
which will allow their kids to obtain their very first official chess rating!
QUALIFICATION
– Players with a score of at least 50% (2.5/5.0) will be qualified to compete in the
2026 Canadian Youth Chess Championship!

– 2nd Place: Silver Medal
– 3rd Place: Bronze Medal
In the event of a tie for a medal-winning position, all tied players earn a prize.
ENTRY FEE
$55/player on or after January 1, 2026
BYES
Maximum of 2 half-point BYEs available during rounds 1-4.
PLAY-UPS
You can play up at no additional cost. For example, if you’re 11 years-old, you can play up in the
U14, U16 or U18 Section.
REFUNDS
50% back if you notify us by January 15, 2026
No refunds after January 15, 2026
