About this Event

There is a suggested donation of $20-$50 that will be collected at the door, but no one is turned away for lack of funds. Cash or Venmo.

What is Circlesinging? This term is used by all types of groups to mean many different types of practices. This group takes after Bobby McFerrin's style:

Seen here!

The gist: Entirely improvisational. We meet each other in a circle, and a facilitator will enter into the middle and begin to improvise vocally until they find a repeating pattern. They hand that part off to a section or to all of the circle, and then continue improvising, finding more parts, handing them off, conducting the circle, anything is possible. We've broken out into dance, into runways, sat down, laid down, whistled like birds, the possibilities are endless and has everything to do with who is in the circle in that particular moment. The practice takes inspiration from musical styles and cultures from all around the world, and is now practiced in practically every corner. But, everyone sings. We've always sung. This is just yet another iteration of something as old as humanity itself.

And practically everything is sung in gibberish, wordless.

The night will be hosted by Miles Millikan, but several other facilitators will step in and spin/catch/lead circlesongs.

Participation is completely voluntary! Everything is an invitation - you'll never be forced to do anything. The circle will be singing from 7 until 9 PM, you can come and go as you please, sit and listen outside of the circle, or join the circle at any time.
