Performance, Demonstration, Classes & Activities
12:00-12:20pm: Opening celebration - Lion Dance performance for the blessing by Kei Lun Martial Arts, founded in 1994. Kei Lun Martial Arts is dedicated to the promotion and preservation of the cultural legacies of the lion dance, dragon dance, and martial arts.
12:30-01:30pm Tai Chi Demonstration - Tai Chi free introductory classes by White Magnolia.
2:00-4:00pm Free Stress-Reduction Acupuncture with John Luna-Sparks LAc. Space is limited, call the clinic to reserve your space, 510-570-8195!
1:00-4:00pm Activities:
**Be Cultured with Fermented Foods - Karen Wang Diggs: Chef, Nutritionist, Fermentation Expert, and Author will share complimentary tastings of her wild fermented Pao Chai泡菜 (Chinese fermented vegetables) and Water Kefir infused with Chinese medicinal herbs. Karen will answer your fermentation questions, as well as stories from "The Book of Awesome Asian Women".
**DIY-Writing Chinese Calligraphy - Spring Couplets 春聯 "Chūnlián", a New Year's decoration that expresses happiness and hopeful thoughts for the coming year.
**Face / Body Painting by local art teacher Sandra Chang and middle/high school students.
**Teance’s complimentary Lunar New Year Red teas (Hong Cha) will be served after the Lion Dance performance.
12:00-4:00pm Food/ Art / Craft / Gift Pop-Ups (more detail are coming soon!)
**Nekosama: a Taiwanese/woman owned local home bakery based in Castro Valley. They Specialize in Whimsical Baked Goods handcrafted in small batches using natural and local ingredients. Many of the treats are Asian Flavors inspired and not-too-sweet!
They will bring a limited amount of the Special Edition Lunar New Year Cookie Box along with their other yummy baked goods & pastries, but pre-orders will be available online before the event as well!
**Maicha Tea Time Co: Local handmade tea time treats intended for pairing with Teance teas. The goal in mind for Maicha is to provide a pleasant, unique tea time experience for you and your loved ones to share as you spend quality time together.
**Mt.Kakigori ~ Japanese style shaved ice using premium clear ice for a soft and fluffy texture, with flavors inspired by California’s diverse culture and produce. Flavors at the event will be LNY themed! IG: @mt.kakigori_ FB: @mt.kakigori_
**Abigail Doerr: I am a quilter, sewist, and ceramic artist. I'll be selling sipping cups, napkins, quilts, and small bags.
**Alexandra Kahn Ceramics: I am a potter and a biologist, and in my ceramics I integrate my twin loves of art and the natural world. At the Lunar New Year Celebration at Teance, I will be featuring wheel thrown mugs that I have illustrated, painted, and carved with depictions of snakes. Each mug is a unique piece of art that can bring a bit of joy to your new year. I will also be selling ceramic jewelry, largely inspired by plants, which are all finished with sterling silver findings.
**Purple Fire Gems ~ Local jewelry-maker Leslie Yee-Murata makes Asian-inspired earrings, pendants, and bracelets with semi-precious stones such as jade, carnelian, agate, and more.
