This year at the 3rd Annual Kwanzaa Celebration! Unity In The Community in collaboration with Community Partners on Thursday December 26 2024 at the Central Family Life Center 59 Wright Street Staten Island NY 10304 from 6:30pm to 10:30pm we will include the feast often called "Karamu" mirrors traditional African harvest celebrations where communities would gather to share the bounty of the land.
Due to the generous donations of our donors the "Karamu" is made possible and attendees will be able to share a meal as they enjoy this festive Kwanzaa holiday. Kwanzaa which begins December 26 through January 1 and draws on Southern African first-fruits celebrations and the seven basic values of African culture or the “Nguzo Saba” which in Swahili means the seven principles. It is important because it represents the core principle of community and togetherness allowing families and communities to gather reflect on our African heritage honor our ancestors and strengthen bonds through the shared act of eating a meal rich in cultural significance; essentially it's a way to celebrate our history and unity while enjoying food that tells the story of our lineage.
Everyone is invited to join us and enjoy music by DJ General Tactics Procession African Dance by MCDC Miss Cheryl's Dance Company Fusha Dance Company Drumming performances by Jah Jah Beats and IamI Rudi Mwongozi Tributes and Guest Speaker Professor James Small as he share the importance of family community and culture to reaffirm and reinforce the bonds between us as people while shopping at the Unity Marketplace.
