We kindly invite you to contribute to the 37th Baltic Criminological Seminar: “SIMPLIFICATION OF JUSTICE: PROSPECTS FOR CRIMINOLOGY, " which will take place in Vilnius, Lithuania, on July 3-4, 2025.
The concept of justice is a profound and enduring subject that has been a central focus of human thought since the earliest civilizations. It has been shaped by various scientific fields, philosophical perspectives, and religious teachings, each offering distinct views, yet an objective definition remains elusive. In the contemporary, constantly evolving society, several critical questions emerge: Are we simplifying the complexities and multifaceted nature of justice by reducing it solely to criminal justice? Could simplification undermine our fundamental justice and criminal justice structures? Are the deep and intricate notions of justice, injustice, guilt, and innocence at risk of simplification? Are we compromising the complexity of justice by emphasizing procedural fairness, efficiency, and cost-effectiveness? By focusing on more accessible and efficient legal processes, do we overshadow existing social inequalities and disparities? Finally, what role can criminology play in mitigating these risks and overcoming the challenges they present?

Certificates will be awarded to seminar participants. The seminar will be held in English. There sill be no translation into other languages.
The seminar is free for presenters and volunteers. For other participants the registration fee is 50 EUR (25 EUR for students), paid by bank transfer.
