The festival commemorates Kunta Kinte's arrival in Annapolis in 1767 and observes his struggle to preserve his cultural heritage. Thousands of people locally, and nationally, come to the festival to partake in the day's activities in scenic and historic Downtown Annapolis, where Kunta Kinte was brought from The Gambia, West Africa.
