INTRODUCING THE LILYFONTEIN TROT & CYCLE 2025Set amidst a scenic backdrop of tomato and cattle farms, the TROT has become an event for the whole family. This is a family fun day and a Lilyfontein School fundraiser with the aim to raise funds that will enable us to continue to develop our academic, sporting and cultural amenities.
A little history: The Lilyfontein Tomato Trot & Cycle, fondly known as the TROT, was founded in 1995 on the premise that town runners are missing out on a great opportunity to experience the countryside. Three Brakfontein runners, John Brown, Rocco Kruger and Danie Bessinger (of Sunrise Park Run fame) got together with Ivan Dewing and decided to share their passion for running in the paradise of farming country. The rather unusual name originated from the environment in which the run takes place; through the tomato fields and farmlands of the Brakfontein area.
This year celebrates the 30th Tomato Trot & Cycle to be hosted by Lilyfontein School. The event will include a 35km cycle, 35km e-bike cycle, 8km cycle, 15km “trail” run (trail, gravel and jeep track) and finish off with a 5km fun run/walk. These events will not be timed, participants will be informed that this is not a registered event.
2024 saw a field of 1,615 participants. For our 30th celebration, we are hoping for a field of 2,100 participants. However, the budget is based on 1,600 participants.
Each of the events will run back-to-back starting at Lilyfontein School. The Lilyfontein Tomato Trot & Cycle is the school’s biggest fundraiser, given that the event attracts almost as many supporters as it does athletes.
The event is all about fun in the great outdoors: Families enjoying a day out in the country. From the PTA food zone and beer tent, to the kids’ entertainment zone, and the Eco Market, the Lilyfontein Tomato Trot and Cycle will be sure to put a smile on everyone’s face.
Let’s get our TROT on!
