About this Event
Using found textures we will experiment with impressing textural compositions into clay slabs and then draping them over and into existing forms to create voluminous shapes.
Our first session will focus on pure experimentation; we will practice rolling clay slabs, attaching multiple slabs together to create a larger surface and creating impressions with found materials; bubble wrap, textiles, leaves or other organic matter, paper cut outs…. Then, we will see what happens when our textured slabs are draped over and into other forms; dish ware, large bowls, a basketball, a bucket, a tube, a flower pot…
The second session will be another opportunity to experiment and use what we are learning to create a second series of forms.
The third sessions is reserved for glazing/painting. We will experiment will techniques that will highlight the textures we create in the clay.
Students will need to return to pick up fired work after the workshop ends.
