Join us for a special three week introductory block of Collegiate Shag!Collegiate Shag is a fun, energetic and up-tempo dance that is excellent to dance to faster Swing or Rock'n'roll music. Originating in the Carolina's in the 1930's in the African-American community it became the national dance craze of 1937, spearheaded by college kids.
Today it has a small but devoted and growing following in the swing dance community who are charmed by the dance's bubbly personality and way of making shaggers feel like they're gliding across the dance floor.
Bridget and Azi are our guest teachers for the block. They are two amazing Sydney dancers who have taught and competed internationally and emersed themselves in the shag community to learn from the best and bring their passion to the Sydney scene. They have many trophies under their belts but most of all they would love a thriving shag scene at home, so let’s get to it!
Bridget and Azi will be teaching Shag fundamentals, essential vocabulary and a sprinkle of fancy footwork so that by the end of the block you will feel confident to social dance to any fast tune that comes your way.
This class is best suited for intermediate swing or rock’n’roll students looking to progress their dancing. Total beginners should learn the basics of swing and rock’n’roll first before tackling shag.
No booking is required, just come along! Clicking going to the event would help us get an understanding of numbers though so please do that. :D
