So here it is folks! A new course designed to support women who have attended a basic skills workshop (over 500 since 2019), to extend their use of tools and skills. This practical, hands on workshop, will enable you to undertake more complex jobs in and around the home.
The course will focus on how to get the most out of tools such as routers, planers and various useful jigs. The workshop will also ensure you know how to maintain tools properly, by cleaning, oiling, and sharpening them, from chisels, to planes and cutters. This will extend the life of your tools and enhance their performance.
Each day we will start it with a 'mastering class' in how to set up and fully use tools such as jigsaws, routers, electric planers, hand planes, different saws etc....
We will also extend our understanding of materials, such as which woods to use for certain jobs.
This learning will be reinforced by practically using the tools to carry out trade jobs such as:
Workshop 1 (March)
* Making and hanging a brace and ledgered door
*Installing a small decked area.
* Making a simple, but beautiful redwood timber kitchen cupboard (all for considerably less than buying one in)
Workshop 2 (July)
* Installing different types of roofs (felt, galvanised iron, slate).
*Making and installing window frames
By continually improving your skills and making the most of your tools, you'll find that your DIY projects become more enjoyable and successful.
The three day course includes your own double room, lush food in the evening, lunch and help yourself breakfast. All hosted in a comfy, colourful house, 10 minutes walk above Poppit sands.
