Don’t Trash It, Smash It!Join Tioga County Sustainability, Experience Tioga, and CCE Tioga at the Tioga County Fairgrounds on Saturday, November 8th from 11am – 2pm for our second annual pumpkin smash event!
What is a Pumpkin Smash?
A Pumpkin Smash is an effort to divert pumpkins from landfills by hosting an event to smash pumpkins after Halloween! This will also be a location for residents to drop-off jack-o-lanterns or whole pumpkins to be composted or donated to livestock. Don’t have a pumpkin to smash? Come to the Pumpkin Smash and smash one of the pumpkins supplied.
We will have pumpkin smashing, games, and light refreshments at this FREE fun fall event!
Tioga County 4-H clubs and animals will be on display — come meet some of their amazing youth, dedicated volunteers, and incredible 4-H project animals!
4-H is welcoming new youth members and adult volunteers for the upcoming 4-H year. They will have enrollment forms available.
-Please remove all candles and decorations prior to arrival
-Bring your own bucket or container if you would like to take home some of the smashed pumpkins to compost in your backyard or whole pumpkins to feed livestock
-Children under the age of 18 must be accompanied by an adult
-Please do not bring your own smashing implements - they will be provided for you (along with PPE!)
-This event will be held rain or shine!
-If you would like to donate a pumpkin for someone else to smash, drop-offs will be accepted between 10-11am on November 8th
Help Fight Hunger in Our Community
During the Pumpkin Smash Event we’re collecting non-perishable canned goods to support Tioga County Rural Ministry. Every can makes a difference!
Core Desired Foods for TC Rural Ministry:
*These are, for the most part, foods that we cannot purchase at the Food Bank
• canned crushed tomatoes
• canned beets
• canned sweet potatoes
• stewed tomatoes
• tomato paste
• cranberry sauce
• canned tuna
• high protein soups or canned products like beef stew, spaghetti & meatballs (7 grams of protein or more)
• varied soups, other than chicken noodle, tomato, mushroom and vegetarian.
Let’s stock the shelves and feed our neighbors.
Bring a can. Spread the word. Make an impact.
