This project was inspired not only by my journey as a JMA instructor and black belt but also by my younger brother, Max, who passed away unexpectedly in January of 2023 at the age of 33.
Max embodied a harsh sort of kindness that was unfiltered but true; a willingness to serve others and those he loved above himself, and a love for life and all its wonders. He continued to live and love fiercely until his death, a result of battling addiction and a blood disorder. Max was my little brother, but also one of my greatest protectors, allies, and friends. He taught me what it meant to give everything to those you love, to be bold and uncompromising with the things you believe in. These qualities have continued to inspire me to give all that I can to help others. In his honor, for my family, for all the strength he has given me, I wanted to give something back in his memory that shows what it means to live and love fiercely, to serve others in kindness, to be brave and bold… for the love of life.
