Competition ice climbing is an up and coming sport in the US, which has its roots in outdoor ice climbing, mixed climbing, and dry tooling. It combines precise use of ice tools with flexibility, body tension, and strength in a format that is exciting and accessible for everyone, spanning from beginners just starting out all the way to the elite levels seen in the UIAA World Cups.
The Turner Climbing Gym & Riverwest Outdoors Ice Fest Competition is aimed at introducing climbers to the sport of dry tooling as well as challenging those already familiar. We will be providing gear, instruction on how to use it, and an intro to climbing with ice tools. Because this is an indoor event, climbers will use rock climbing shoes instead of crampons and boots. There will be Beginner, Open, and Youth categories with plenty of routes for all to climb.
Our indoor ice wall will also be available at no charge for those who are not involved in the competition but would like to try ice climbing out in a safe and relaxing environment. We will show movies, demos, and presentations during the event!
