Join local mushroom dye teachers and community members for a potluck-style outdoor dye party! We are hoping to share knowledge about dyeing with mushrooms and lichens, identification, history, and meet others interested in this fascinating and historic craft. These dyes have been used for thousands of years around the world- from India, to the Navajo, to Scottish tartan. This is an inclusive event for both seasoned dye enthusiasts to those just curious about the process. Don't be afraid to join if you have no experience!
If you have mushrooms/lichens to gift, trade or show off, bring them! We will have examples of materials dyed to show off as well as books to peruse and dyer specimens to examine.
**needed** extra portable cooktops and stainless steel or (flameproof) glass dye pots.
Some species we will be learning and working with: P. Schweinitzii (dyer's polypore), orchil dye lichen(purple!), Cortinarius smithii(reds), and possibly more.
Hosts will provide extra dye material, primarily P. Schweinitzii (dyer's polypore), available for people to use, as well as blank mordanted yarn for sale at cost
This is a not for profit event, just like minded niche hobby dorks getting together.
Location TBA. We are still arranging final details.
