The Children’s Home of Pittsburgh & Lemieux Family Center will host our 2nd annual "Innovations in CVI: Teams and Transitions" Conference on Thursday, October 3rd and Friday, October 4th at the Sheraton Pittsburgh Hotel in Station Square. The Children’s Home of Pittsburgh brought in Pediatric VIEW, a program developed by Christine Roman Lantzy, Ph. D., in 2021. The program provides care and support to children aged from birth to twenty-one who have Cortical Visual Impairment (CVI), a brain-based visual impairment. Christine has spent most of her career championing awareness, creating change, and insisting growth in the world of CVI. She started her work with CVI at West Penn Hospital. It was there that she developed the CVI Range, a tool used to score an individual on the CVI spectrum, which is now used worldwide. While at West Penn, she cared for almost 1,000 patients and families.
Pediatric VIEW has now grown far beyond what its founder would have imagined when she started her work decades ago. Christine’s innovation in the field of CVI continues to lend itself to building a brighter future for children living with CVI through individual screenings, detailed assessments, and personal interventions. Pediatric VIEW also offers a full-service school support program that educates school administration on how to accurately provide numeracy and literacy assistance to children in the school districts. And The Children’s Home’s Family Centered Therapy team works alongside Pediatric VIEW so that children with CVI can optimize their physical, occupational, speech, developmental, feeding, and vision therapy needs.
The national CVI conference will bring a variety of attendees from around the country together to educate and provide them with tools to use in their homes, practices, schools, and everyday life.
