Come join the Japanese Culture Center for a night of folding at the 2D Restaurant! Attendees will learn three basic origami patterns while enjoying bites and beverages from one of the most exciting new restaurants in the Lakeview neighborhood.
Tickets for this event are $25 and include one mochi donut and unlimited paper supplied for origami folding. Additional food can be purchased but is not included in the ticket fee. This event will be at the 2D Restaurant located at 3155 N Halsted on Tuesday, September 13th at 6:00pm.
Instructor Bio
Ty Yamamoto is a Chicago-based filmmaker, photographer and Japanese teacher with a passion for the art of folding paper. Ever since childhood, Ty has loved folding all sorts of intricate paper creations. Over the past year, Ty has taught virtual origami lessons to people of all ages, bringing the traditional Japanese art form to households all over the world.
2D Restaurant
2D Restaurant is the creation of wife-and-husband team Vanessa Thanh Vu (Interior Designer) and Kevin Yu (Chef).
In partnership with Chicago artist Mia Larson, the couple spent about two years attending to every detail of the 1,600 square-foot space, ultimately crafting an immaculate 22-seat fantasy world that channels the Netflix hit Emily in Paris, complete with a balcony view of the Eiffel Tower, a 1920s-style en-suite hotel bathroom complete with a bubble-filled clawfoot tub, and a cozy library stocked with tall bookshelves around a lit fireplace.
