About this Event
Picture this. There’s a riot, the interstate is blocked, and police have cordoned off the side streets. Or a tornado ripped through your town, and there are trees down across every road. Or it’s the Snowpocalypse (again). You need to make it home ASAP, but it looks like you’ll have to ditch your car and move out on foot. What are you taking with you? That’s the question we’ll answer in this class. We’ll cover different philosophies around the 24hr bag, what to put in it, and most importantly, we’ll practice the skills to know how to use it. By the end, you’ll know how to outfit yourself and your vehicle to be prepared for whatever may come.
Here’s what you’ll learn in this class:
- How to make short-term expedient shelters
- How to travel on foot without drawing attention to yourself
- Firecraft, and other ways to maintain your core temperature
- How to find water and make it safe to drink
- How to pack a 24hr bag that’s lightweight, discreet, and tactical
- Specific gear recommendations and what to avoid
- Considerations for self-defense
- What you really need in a 24hr first aid kit
- Options for communication when cell networks are down
- How to find your way home with or without a GPS
- And much more
And here’s what else you can expect from us:
- A hot, home-cooked meal to keep you going through the day
- Unlimited instructor support after class is over
- “Homework” to help you train and grow your skills on your own time
We live in uncertain times. And you have three options to live with that fact – ignore it, live in fear, or empower yourself with the skills and knowledge to face it head-on. We’re always for the third option, and we’re here to help get you there. So if that day ever comes, you’ll have what you need to prevail, come what may.
No prior experience is required for this class, but we recommend bringing a daypack with some basic necessities (see our FAQs for what we suggest) and comfortable shoes for hiking. Got a long drive and hate waking up early? Sign up for overnight camping here.
