About this Event
A much-loved jewel in the city’s cultural life, Tyneside Cinema is known as one of the country’s leading independent cinemas. But did you also know that it’s the oldest surviving newsreel theatre in the UK that still operates as a cinema?
As part of NE1’s 24 Doors of Christmas, Tyneside Cinema are offering an exclusive guided tour exploring its history as a newsreel theatre alongside its many unique historical features. You’ll learn all about its lavish Art Deco architecture and enjoy a screening of newsreels from the cinema’s heyday in the 1930s, 1940s and 1950s. If you miss the guided tour, don't worry. If you visit any time during the day, you can pick up a free self-guided tour pack to learn more about the history of the cinema while you're here.
This event is free but tickets must be reserved in advance.
