🌄 Join the 23rd EDGG Field Workshop in the Pirin Mountains! 🌄The 23rd EDGG Field Workshop will take place in the magnificent Pirin National Park (SW Bulgaria) from 14–18 July 2026, immediately before the Eurasian Grassland Conference. This hands-on research expedition offers a unique opportunity to contribute to high-quality, multi-scale biodiversity sampling in some of the most species-rich mountain habitats of Southeast Europe.
Organised by the Eurasian Dry Grassland Group (EDGG), the workshop continues the long-standing tradition of collaborative field research using the standardised EDGG methodology. Participants will work in international teams to collect vegetation, bryophyte, lichen, and soil data across alpine and subalpine habitats in the Pirin Mountains.
The workshop combines intensive scientific work with the unforgettable experience of mountain field ecology. Sampling will focus primarily on the regions of Vihren and Bezbog peaks, where participants will explore a remarkable mosaic of alpine grasslands, heaths, mires, and other open habitats. The collected data will contribute to joint publications and to the GrassPlot database, making this an excellent opportunity to engage in impactful collaborative research.
Participation is limited to 20 participants, ensuring close teamwork and high scientific quality. Vegetation ecologists from Bachelor's students to senior scientists are warmly invited to apply, especially those with expertise in vascular plants, bryophytes, lichens, or soil analyses.
