After the absolute triumph that was last year (seriously, one of the best singings I've ever been to), I'm delighted to invite you all to the 20th Annual West Yorkshire All-Day.This year we will be singing from the 2025 revision ("the green book").
Date: Saturday 15th of November; 10am for 10:30 start, finish at 4pm.
Address: Holy Trinity Church, Church Street, Rothwell, LS26 0QL. The parish centre where the singing will take place is directly east of the church building.
Covid testing:
We will be adopting the new Covid policy that was passed by the UK Convention in September. Testing will no longer be mandatory and tests will not be available on the day of the singing, however, if you think you may have an infectious disease of any kind (including but not limited to Covid, flu, or a cold), please DO NOT attend. We need you all to take care and personal responsibility of your own health, so that in turn we can all take care of each other. This policy is subject to change if there are any major health alerts between now and the day of the singing.
The 2025 book:
I've been able to secure plenty of loaner copies of the new book for those who don't yet have their own. Books will not be available to purchase at the singing.
Dinner on the grounds:
This will be a bring-and-share lunch as usual. Slow cookers are welcome, but we do not have use of any facilities to heat food. Please take responsibility for your own dish(es) throughout the day as the kitchen will not be staffed during singing.
Step-free access:
There is a step-free entrance to the church grounds and the venue from Meynell Avenue, to the east of the main entrance. There is also some parking available on this street, but please only park here if someone in your party needs to use this entrance.
Accommodation:
The Holiday Inn Express Leeds East in Oulton is just under two miles away from the singing and is linked by bus routes.
Directions to the venue:
Public Transport:
**IMPORTANT** - Please note that there have been some changes to bus routes since last year's singing: there is no longer a single bus directly from the train station to the singing venue as the 444 and 446 routes now terminate at the bus station. Singers planning on coming by public transport will now need to make their way to the bus station to pick up either bus, which stops outside Rothwell church. The bus station is about 15 minutes walk east of the train station, or there are multiple bus routes that go in that direction.
Alternatively, if you change at Leeds and take the train to Woodlesford, the 446 bus now goes directly from Woodlesford station into Rothwell.
If these changes present a problem for you and you need a lift from the station, please get in touch with me and I'll do my best to organise something.
Car - From M1 Junction 44:
Exit east onto the A639, signposted Pontefract and Castleford. When you reach a set of traffic lights, turn right onto Styebank Lane. At the end of this road, turn right onto Park Lane and go straight over the next roundabout. The second roundabout you reach is the turning for Meynell Avenue and a large car park, and the church is visible from the third roundabout shortly after that.
Car - From M62 Junction 30:
Exit north onto the A642, signposted Leeds, Oulton, Rothwell, and Garforth. Continue along this road and take the first exit on the next two roundabouts you come to. The speed limit will change to 50, then gradually lower to 30 as you enter Rothwell. Continue along this road as it bends to the left onto Marsh Lane, then turn right at the traffic lights with an Aldi supermarket on the left hand side onto Butcher Lane. The church will be visible up ahead.
There are STILL major roadworks on the A1 at Wentbridge. If you're travelling north and don't want pain, I suggest you keep to the M1.
Parking:
There are a number of car parks of various sizes in Rothwell. The Marsh Lane car park is now pay and display, but all other parking is free. There are two small car parks on Butcher Lane, and one on Church Street, the latter of which is the closest to the venue. These car parks are popular however. The overground car park at Morrisons is also available, but may be quite busy if a lot of people are doing their shopping.
Please do not park in the Saluté White Swan car park, the Methodist church car park, or the Morrisons underground car park. Please leave Meynell Avenue free for singers with access requirements as parking there is limited.
For singers driving electric or PHEV cars, there are Type 2 charging points at the car park at the top of Butcher Lane, and a fast charging point in the Marsh Lane car park.
