Supporting Rise helps children with developmental challenges get the start they need to build a successful, independent life. We believe every dollar invested in the education of a student with special needs today is returned to us with interest tomorrow as they become adults who are better able to participate in society, care for themselves, and require fewer social and public services.
The Rise School program prepares all of our students to succeed in general education classrooms at their elementary, middle, and high school levels and equips them to participate effectively in their places of employment. Children at Rise learn firsthand that their peers will have a range of abilities different from their own, and all Rise students acquire the gift of compassion and empathy for people of differing abilities, gifts they will carry with them throughout life.
For children with disabilities, Rise School’s fully-inclusive classroom allows them to observe and model after their peers, working to develop the same age-appropriate skills and behaviors they see their typically-developing peers exhibit. Modeling is a fundamental learning strategy used by every person to acquire new abilities. Rise believes that isolating children with developmental challenges in their own classrooms sets expectations low for their development needs and denies them the opportunity to learn at a pace with their peers. Our goal is for every child to be a valuable contributor in a general education setting, and all Rise students graduate from our pre-kindergarten program with a strong foundation in reading, writing, mathematics, technology self-awareness, and community mindedness.
