Learning to Create: How "Kids of All Ages" Have Used Digital Technologies to Co-Create the
Future
Dr. Alan Kay, personal computer inventor, said, "The best way to predict the future is to invent
it." Creativity, possibly the highest form of human learning explores the unknown. For over 60
years, digital technologies have served as interactive tools and collaboration platforms to
enhance human learning and creativity. This talk examines various forms of technology-
mediated creative activities and the socially situated nature of creating as learning. It highlights
the central role of young people in developing these technologies, from personal computers and
video games to AI. The seminar honors the late Professor Moshe Caspi, who studied "creative
self-education" for decades.
Dr. Ted M. Kahn is the co-founder, president, and CEO of DesignWorlds for Learning, Inc., and
the chief learning officer for DesignWorlds for College and Careers. Ted has been a pioneer in
R&D and application of interactive computational multimedia for lifelong learning for over 50
years and specializes in co-curating digital resources through learning collaboratories. Kahn
has affiliations with prestigious institutions like UC Berkeley, Atari, the Institute for Research on
Learning (IRL), and Stanford in various scientific and executive positions. Ted was also an early
pioneer in educational technology in Israel, and co-sponsored a major exhibit at the Israel
Museum in 1983, attracting hundreds of thousands of visitors.
