Join the Worthington community to celebrate and honor Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., at the annual celebration on Monday, January 19, 2026 at 11am at the Worthington United Methodist Church, 600 High Street. This year’s theme is “Back to our Roots.”
The event features music, a reading of Dr. King's “I Have a Dream” speech by Worthington school students, and reflections from community members about how Dr. King's message has impacted their lives.
In addition, we welcome Worthington Schools alumna and community leader Kyle Strickland to share his story as our keynote speaker. Strickland is a lawyer and civic leader dedicated to advancing racial equity, opportunity, and a stronger democracy for all. He serves as the Director of Strategic Engagement at the Ohio Progressive Collaborative, where he leads civic engagement initiatives that empower communities to drive lasting change. He also directs My Brother’s Keeper Ohio, a statewide network supporting youth leadership and opportunity for the next generation.
Musical performances will be featured from the Thomas Worthington High School Chamber and Concert Choirs and the St. John AME Praise Team.
An American Sign Language Interpreter will be available.
Refreshments will be served following the program.
As a tribute to Dr. King’s commitment to help those in need, everyone attending the program is asked to bring canned food items to be donated to the Worthington Resource Pantry.
The 2026 Martin Luther King Community Celebration is presented by the Worthington Community Relations Commission, in partnership with the Worthington Libraries, Worthington Schools, Worthington Alliance of Black Families and Educators and Worthington United Methodist Church.
