The City of Arkadelphia has rescheduled its 2026 Black History Month Recognition Ceremony due to ongoing hazardous weather conditions. The event will now be held on Monday, February 9, at 10:00 a.m. in the Town Hall Atrium. The decision follows continued icy conditions caused by Winter Storm Fern, which impacted the area nearly a week ago. Although warmer daytime temperatures have helped reduce ice, freezing overnight temperatures have led to repeated refreezing. With continued freezing conditions in the forecast, city officials do not expect roads, parking lots, and sidewalks to be safe for travel by the original event date of February 2.
To allow additional time for conditions to improve and to ensure public safety, the city has moved the ceremony to the following Monday (February 9).
The public is invited to attend the recognition ceremony on February 9 at 10:00 a.m. in the Town Hall Atrium. Biographies of the 2026 honorees will be published to the cityβs website on February 1.
