2026 Black History Month Celebration: The Divine Nine

This Black History Month, the DeKalb History Center invites you to participate in the celebration of the Divine Nine, the nine historically Black Greek Lettered fraternities and sororities of the National Pan-Hellenic Council.
Founded at Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs), these organizations were established to – among other things – provide a sense of belonging for Black college students. Their objectives are to provide spaces for community, scholarship, and support for Black students who have been excluded from predominantly white Greek organizations. The Divine Nine within the Black Community serve as more than a Greek Life presence; it is a connection to Black American culture. They are a testament to enduring traditions of leadership and service.
In DeKalb County, the Divine Nine members are an active and prominent population. Their interests are primarily focused on the community’s history and aiding in communal needs. This program is designed to honor their past achievements, celebrate their present pursuits, and encourage the future generations to carry the mantles of leadership, scholarship, and service. Join us to celebrate the enduring legacy of the Divine Nine in our community!
