About this Event
Join Us at the 2026 BC Public Interest Environmental Law Conference!
Co-hosted by the Environmental Law Centre (ELC) and the Environmental Law Club at UVic, the BC Public Interest Environmental Law Conference brings together students, practitioners, scholars, artists, and community members for an exploration of this year’s theme: Law Rooted in Land and Relationships.
This conference is intended for anyone interested in public interest environmental law, including students, legal professionals, policymakers, academics, artists, and community members. By centering law within land-based and relational contexts, the conference aims to foster thoughtful, grounded conversations about how environmental law can respond to contemporary challenges while remaining accountable to place and community.
Day 1 of the BC Public Interest Environmental Law Conference (Thursday, February 26, 3:30–9:30 p.m.) takes place in the Indigenous Law Wing (B142) of the Fraser Law Building and at the David Lam Auditorium on UVIC campus.
This opening event, organized by the Environmental Law Club, will include a guided nature walk that explores the natural beauty of UVIC campus. UVIC Professor Pamela Spalding will lead the walk.
All registrants are expected to check-in by 3:45 p.m. in the B Wing at Fraser Law Building on the UVIC campus. Professor Spalding will start the walk sharply at 4:00 p.m.
The Environmental Law Club (ELClub) is a student-run club at the University of Victoria, Faculty of Law. The ELClub is composed of law students from all years of law school and is one of the largest and longest running student clubs at UVic Law. Our mission is to promote awareness regarding environmental challenges by engaging students and the general public in education, advocacy, and relationship-building. We aim to approach this work from an anti-colonial perspective, recognizing the intersection between environmental stewardship and Indigenous legal orders.
Remember to register for Day 2 of the 2026 Public Interest Environmental Law Conference, which is scheduled to take place the next day on February 27, 2026!
