The 2025 Taitonga South Island Champs will feature two foot orienteering events, both set in the stunning yet challenging Waikaia Forest.Event Schedule:
Friday, 7th February: Long Distance – Waikaia Forest
Saturday, 8th February: Middle Distance – Waikaia Forest
Please note that these dates overlap with the Burt Munro Challenge (5–9 February 2025), so accommodation in the area may be limited. Having two events over consecutive days allows extra time for travel before and after the competition.
Camping Information:
Limited camping is available at Whitecoomb Stream near the event centre. Fill in our form https://www.southlandorienteeringclub.co.nz/taitonga-south/whitecoomb-camping-form to secure your spot. You’ll need to be completely self-sufficient, though portaloos will be provided. Due to current road closures (until 25th October), we haven't yet checked its suitability for campervans but will update you as soon as possible.
For alternative accommodation, camping at Piano Flat is a great option. However, you must book through the Department of Conservation.
