The 2025 Stockholm Women's Kendo Camp will be led by Kumi Sato and Kate Sylvester. The camp is open to non-binary persons, trans women and cis women. Kendo Camp Sensei:
Kumi Sato (Kyoshi 7 dan) is an instructor at Föreningen Stockholms Kendo Allians (FSKA) in Stockholm, Sweden. She started kendo in Japan in 1983 at the age of 5 and has achieved podium finishes at a number of domestic and international competitions. Sato sensei represented her residing country Sweden as a national team coach between 2003-2017. She also competed for Sweden at the 2018 World Kendo Championships (WKC) in Korea and was presented with a fighting spirit award. Sato sensei is an invited instructor and shimpan at local and international kendo events. She has also refereed at the European Kendo Championships (EKC). This year, Sato sensei was presented with the prestigious Japanese Foreign Minister's Award in recognition of her work for Swedish and European kendo.
Kate Sylvester (Renshi 6 dan) is an instructor at FSKA in Stockholm, Sweden. She started kendo in Japan in 1992 at the age of 15 and has competed for her country at every WKC between 2000-2015. She was presented with a fighting spirit award at the 2009 WKC in Brazil. As the Australian national team head coach, she led the team to their first bronze medal finish at the 2018 WKC. Sylvester sensei was the Swedish women's national team coach between 2021-2024. She has won the Australian women's individual championships on 5 occassions and is the current Swedish women's champion. Sylvester sensei also organised 6 Oceania Women's Kendo Seminars (Australia) led by 7 dan women sensei from Japan. Check out her blogsite ksperspectives.com
