Silverton Athletics Gala & Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony Set for May 17, 2025The Silverton Athletics community is proud to announce the Silverton Athletics Gala and Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony, scheduled for Friday, May 17, at the Mt. Angel Festhalle. This event will celebrate the rich history and outstanding achievements of Silverton athletes, coaches, and contributors.
Doors will open at 5:00 PM, allowing attendees to enjoy a social hour before dinner is served at 6:15 PM. The highly anticipated Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony will begin at approximately 6:45 PM, honoring individuals who have made a lasting impact on Silverton Athletics.
This special evening brings together past and present members of the Silverton sports community to recognize excellence, dedication, and sportsmanship.
The Wooden Nickel will be catering the event, and tickets are available for $50 at www.silvertonfoxes.com. Current student-athletes will be serving the dinner, and a silent auction will benefit the entrance of the high school near the gym, where a mural of former athletes is being installed.

Bob Mallorie Special Contributor Award
Bob Dedrick – Bob has kept the boys’ basketball scorebook since the early 1970s and has been the football announcer since the late 1970s. Even after his retirement in 2003, he continued his work with SHS Athletics, contributing for an incredible 55 years.
Hall of Fame Athletes
David Castle – Class of 1973
David Castle lettered all four years and set records along the way. Known as a distance runner, he graduated with personal records of 4:19.2 (mile) and 9:08.2 (two-mile). He was the Coast-Valley League District Champion in Cross Country (1972) and a two-time district champion in track for the two-mile event (1972 and 1973). At the state meets, he finished 25th (1971) and 9th (1972) in Cross Country, and in track, he placed 8th (1972) and 3rd (1973) in the two-mile.
Dawn Smoot McCormick – Class of 1983
Dawn Smoot McCormick excelled in athletics at Silverton Union High School, competing in volleyball, basketball, and track & field all four years. Setting numerous records, McCormick still holds the SHS records in the 200-meter (26.24c) from 1982 and the long jump (17’5.5”) from 1981. These records, set on cinder tracks, have remained unbroken for over 40 years.
Outstanding Coach
Paula Magee – Thirty years ago, Paula Magee brought competitive dance to Silverton High School and built a dynasty of dance teams in the years that followed. Under her leadership, Silverton won 20 state trophies in 25 years, including four state championships (1998, 1999, 2000, 2014).
Hall of Fame Team
1993 Girls Golf State Champions
Team members: Tammy Williams VanDeGrift, Kim Jackson Reames, Marci Brenden, Jennifer Bay Hoffer, Prairie Hill Oak, and Coach Lyle Rowland. This group worked together to achieve greatness, winning the 1993 Girls Golf State Championship.
