About this Event
Addiction is a treatable, chronic medical disease involving interactions among brain circuits, genetics, the environment, and an individual’s life experiences. Individuals with a Substance Use Disorder use substances such as drugs and/or alcohol and often continue despite harmful consequences. Mental health and addiction are often closely linked, as people may turn to substances as a way to self-medicate symptoms of mental illnesses, while substance abuse can also trigger or worsen existing mental health issues, creating a cycle where the two conditions reinforce each other. Learn more about how addiction and mental health disorders affect communities.
