Join us on Memorial Day weekend as we honor Samuel F. Pearson's memory and service to his country.Sam Pearson was the eldest of Randi and Carolyn (Crist) Pearson's children. Born and raised in Piqua, Sam was a 1998 Piqua High School graduate, participating in Track, Football, and Basketball. He earned his Economics degree at Otterbein College before going on to enlist in the U.S. Army Reserve in 2006.
Sam served his country as a member of the 88th Regional Readiness Command, attaining the rank of Corporal. On October 10th, 2007, while deployed with his unit in Baghdad, Sam was mortally wounded in a rocket attack. He was just 28 years old.
All proceeds from this event benefit the Sam Pearson Memorial Scholarship Fund at Piqua Education Foundation, which provides scholarships for postsecondary education to graduates of Piqua High School.
On the day of the race, one lucky participant will be randomly drawn to receive a $1,000 Sam Pearson Memorial 5k scholarship. Must be signed up for the race and present to win.
Additionally, there will be cash prizes for first, second, and third place.
The starting line is on the Piqua Bike Path behind the old power plant at 123 Bridge Street.
