2025 Perseid shooting stars at Castle Rock
Date: August 16, 2025
Location: Kirkwood Entrance, Castle Rock State Park
We'll be watching the Perseids Meteor Shower, one of the best that can be seen in Santa Clara Valley! We'll have a talk by an astronomer, and some telescopes.
Please bring a blanket, camp chairs, warm clothes, and a (red) flashlight. We highly recommend bringing a thermos of warm beverages to enjoy.
Registration is required for this event, due to limited parking. One car per ticket (but you can bring many people on just one ticket , as long as you all come in one car :-).
No RVs or campers allowed. This is an alcohol and smoke free event. Note:
- if there is bad weather, this event will be cancelled
- Parking will be $10 (payable on-site) but free for members of the Portola and Castle Rock Foundation
There will be a talk by an astronomer.
Please:
- dress in layers as it may be cool
- bring a red headlamp or a red flashlight (this will make it easier to see the stars)
- bring a blanket
- bring a cusion or pillow, so you can lie down and look up at the sky for shooting stars
- or bring a camp chair which allows you to comfortably look up
- there will be bathrooms, but no food
- so please bring your own water or snacks, but remember to leave no trace! so please take any trash back with you
