The Oneida County Historians Association (OCHA) will host their annual meeting and conference on Saturday, October 25, 2025 from 8:30 am to 2:00 pm at the Rome Historical Society, 200 Church Street, Rome, NY.OCHA seeks to bring together historians with an interest in Oneida County history to share research, learn about best practices for museums and archives, and provide information about upcoming history programming across the region.
Registration for the 2025 conference is open to municipal historians, members of local historical societies, and the general public. Local social studies teachers are also encouraged to attend.
The conference will cover topics such as the American Revolution in the Mohawk Valley, gravestone research in Oneida County, and updates on best archival practices. Programs will be presented by Dick Williams, local author and retired Clinton historian; Jeremy Katz, Hamilton College archivist; Rebecca McLain, Oneida County History Center director; Sue Lorraine, Whitesboro Village Historian, and Colin Havener, Rome Historical Society Director.
This year’s conference will be hosted in memory of Lou Parrotta, former historian for the City of Utica, high school history teacher, and long-time OCHA President, whose presence in the local history community is dearly missed.
The registration cost for this event is $20 per person, which includes all conference programs, refreshments, and dues for 2026. New members will also receive the quarterly newsletter with updates on local history happenings and upcoming events.
