Mark the date on your calendars for the 2025 Michigan Recumbent Trikes Annual Memorial Ride on Saturday May 17, 2025. Weather permitting; we'll ride in sprinkles or maybe even rain, but not in lightening.Originally called the Jerry Morehouse Memorial Ride after one of the first members of Michigan Recumbent Trikes who was a big supporter of recumbent triking and a great encouragement to many new riders, this ride now lets us remember, not only Jerry, but all our riding companions who have passed away. While we ride Jerry's favorite trail from North Muskegon to Montague, we will also be remembering the other MRT members who have passed away including John Botting, Mac Zeff, Carl Masino, Rodger Reddish, and more.
There will be three choices of starting points because people prefer different distances and we don’t all fit into one parking lot!
1. The first is Muskegon Lake Nature Preserve at 2529 Lake Ave, North Muskegon, MI 49445. This is a gravel lot at the north end of the causeway. Riders will depart from here at 9:30am! From this lot, it is about 30 miles round trip.
2. First Lutheran Church at 1206 Whitehall Rd, Muskegon, MI 49445 is kind enough to allow parking for trail use so long as we stay parked along the tree line. Riders parking here will depart at 10:00 am SHARP! From this point, it is about 27 miles round trip
3. Three and a half miles up the trail, there is also parking at the trailhead on the south side of McMillan Rd just east of Whitehall Road. This site does not have a physical address, but if you Google Map "McMillan Trailhead Muskegon" it will get you there. This is a small lot and parking is limited. From here, the entire group will depart at approximately 10:30 am and head towards Montague. From this trailhead, the ride is 20 miles round trip.
We will stop for lunch at the trailhead in Montague, which is also our turn around spot. There are a few lunch options nearby, including a grocery store with a deli, an ice cream shop, and brown bagging is always an option. Just a block away, there is a Dog n Suds stand! But a heads up, they sometimes take their wagon out to local sports events and close up the stand.
This ride is not restricted to MRT members or even to trike riders. Anyone is welcome! Please consider joining us, even if you think you aren't the fastest or most experienced rider. Betsy always takes up the rear of the group and makes sure NOBODY is left behind! This isn't a race. Just go your own pace. If 20 miles is a concern, please consider riding one way with us and having a pick up or drop off on one end. We always like to find ways for anyone who wants to participate to join us. This is an excellent trail for new riders as MOST of it is flat, but there are a couple hill and dips right outside of Whitehall. This is also an excellent opportunity to ride this trail with a group if you have been hesitant to cycle it solo.
Please feel free to invite any friends you think might enjoy the ride.
We also invite our friends who no longer cycle or might be down and out for the 2025 riding season to drive and join us for lunch and socializing!
Hope to see you there!
