Martin Luther once said, “The Psalter ought to be a precious and beloved book, if for no other reason than this: it promises Christ’s death and resurrection so clearly—and pictures his kingdom and the condition and nature of all Christendom—that it might well be called a little Bible.” Come see some of the fascinating ways Luther interpreted this “little Bible” with Dr. Brian German, Chairman of the Theology Department and Director of the Concordia Bible Institute at Concordia University Wisconsin. We will examine some of the most influential works of Luther on the psalms and place a particular focus on how the psalms shaped Luther as a pastoral theologian.Speaker Bio: Dr. Brian German is Associate Professor of Theology and Director of the Concordia Bible Institute at Concordia University Wisconsin. He is the author of Psalms of the Faithful: Luther’s Early Reading of the Psalter in Canonical Context (Lexham Press, 2017) and a commentary on Haggai and Malachi (Concordia Publishing House, 2024). His general area of research has been the history of biblical interpretation, with a particular focus on Luther’s Old Testament writings.
