Greetings from the Kenosha Branch NAACP
It is with great anticipation that the Kenosha Branch of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) invites you to support its Annual Freedom Fund Dinner, our 2025 event theme is "The Fierce Urgency of Now" We are excited to hold our event this year at The University for Wisconsin Parkside Student Ballroom. The Freedom Fund Dinner is an established tradition for NAACP Branches across the country to raise funds and create pathways to effect change while advancing the cause of civil and human rights in America.
The Kenosha NAACP Branch is excited to continue the Rev. Olen Arrington, Jr. Excellence Award and the Bro. John Wright Justice Award for the 2025 Freedom Fund. This year, we will be honoring Former Mayor John Anataramian with the Bro. John Wright Justice Award, and Dr. Michele Hancock with the Rev. Olen Arrington, Jr. Excellence Award. We're excited to announce the introduction of our first Youth NAACP Awards. Youth Council Awards – Heart of Service Award and Rising Star Award. Please join us in celebrating our NAACP award recipients.
The Freedom Fund Event will start at the following times:
- Reception (Social Hour): 5:30 pm
- Program: 6:30 pm
Our Guest speaker will be Chief Judge Carl Ashley of Milwaukee County. Judge Carl Ashley was appointed as Chief Judge of the First Judicial District effective April 15, 2023, by the Supreme Court of Wisconsin. He is the Chair of the Milwaukee Community Justice Council (MCJC).During his 24 years on the bench, he had the privilege to serve in every court division (Misdemeanor, Felony, Family Court, Large Claims Civil, and Children's Court), as well as the Adult Drug Treatment Court, Veterans Treatment Court, and Domestic Violence Court.
Chief Judge Carl Ashley has received various accolades for his accomplishments. In 2003, he received the Innovator of the Year Award in recognition of vision, creativity, and innovative spirit. In 2011, he was selected by the State Bar of Wisconsin as Judge of the Year. In 2013, Judge Ashley received the Leaders in the Law Award from the Wisconsin Law Journal. In 2019, he received the Charles L. Goldberg Distinguished Service Award from the Wisconsin Law Foundation.
