For the 75th New Year's Day, no matter how brutal the weather, bundled-up motorcyclists will ride in the I-Cycle Derby on about 50 miles of Twin Cities area roads. Come ride with us or simply stop by to say hello at this "Diamond" Anniversary event that will once again be run from Diamonds "Atomic" Coffee Shoppe at 1618 Central Ave NE. Parking is in the south lot between the Railroad tracks and the large, long Thorp Building. The I-Cycle Derby is one of the longest-running motorcycle events in the United States. The derby was launched in 1949 by the Gopher State Motorcycle Club and has been run over the years by the Northern Eagles Motorcycle Club which turned it over to the Travelers Motorcycle Club in the mid-1960s. TeamStrange Airheads has organized the event since 2012.
Rider registration will be open from 8:30 am to 10 am; the event will be capped at 55 riders. Riders meeting will start promptly at 10am, first rider out is 10:31am. We will have a lunch break about noon and back on the road for the second leg at 1pm.
