The Durham Landscape Seminar provides continuing education and re-certification credits for public and private sector green industry professionals, including landscapers, grounds and turf managers, and greenhouse and nursery producers. Home gardeners, HOA grounds managers, and others are also welcome to attend.

10 to 10:55am – Small Tree Pruning
F. Justin Bennett, Urban Forestry Specialist, North Carolina Forest Service
This talk will cover the basics of pruning small and young trees with hand tools, proper way to make cuts, how to shape the tree, etc. It is geared towards educating owners of smaller trees how they can maintain their trees shape and health, and reduce the likelihood of future health issues or storms damaging the tree.

11am to 12pm – Pesticide Updates and Applicator Responsibilities

Get ready to have your pesticide questions answered! This talk will include: updates on Oxydiazon/Ronstar RUP Status; what golf course superintendents need to know. Update on the new Certification and Training Rules; what to know for non-certified applicators and their supervisors. Followed by a talk on Licensed Applicator Responsibilities, which will include: how to identify and wear appropriate PPE, drift management, transport and storage of pesticides, labeling, maintaining the appropriate license/certification, supervision of uncertified applicators, spill response and container disposal, and case studies. Attendees will be given the opportunity to ask questions and check their credit hours.
